Candy Apples

I made Candy apples for my daughter's fourth birthday. I had never done it before, so I did a little research. I had Asked a friend for the recipe (since I knew she had done them before) and then googled the recipe too (Chef Michael Smith)
Anyway, here's a play by play of how I did it:

Here's the recipe I used
*This yields 12, but I could have easily gotten another 4-6 out of this recipe.

      Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 cups corn syrup
  • Large pinch cinnamon
  • Few drops red food colouring
  • 12 Honey Crisp apples
  • 12 popsicle sticks

After washing the apples and drying them well, I lined the baking sheet with parchment paper.

I then Stuck a popsicle stick into the BOTTOM on each apple.

In a pot, add 2 cups of water, 2 cups of corn syrup, & 4 cups of sugar.
Do not Stir!!!

Continue to boil until the mixture reaches 290 degrees on a candy thermometer. This will take 20 minutes or so. Stir in the cinnamon and food coloring. (I used purple... it turned out very red)

Dip into the syrup and roll until fully coated. Repeat with the remaining apples.
Rest on a parchment-lined baking sheet until they harden.

I let them sit like that for about 8 hours....somewhere that the kids couldn't reach them of course.

Pretty!

After they were totally hardened, I wrapped them each in clear cellophane,
and tied it with a ribbon.

Big Brother Carter helping hand out the treats!

We used these as the kid's take home gifts instead of loot bags.
I wanted to do something a little different. They were a hit!
